Middle of the field at Northern 12 Stage

Berni Murphy

Berni Murphy

It was a middle of the field performance at the Northern 12 stage at Stockport. LPS came in home 18 after we had reached our high spot of 11th on leg 5 with Henry Stewart picking up 3 places. It was another good run by Henry who is still a junior and he our second fastest man after Bernie Murphy who went on leg one. Good to see Alan Woods back running again as is true of Tom Snape who race so well last week. No Nathan so over all about what we expected.

Reg Armstrong was 74th in 34.43 A fine spring morning in Croxteth Park for this the first event of the year in the park, although entries seemed down.

Silver medal at National Y/A Relays
(7-4-02) After the great success over the cross country it was hoped that our under 17s might bring home this title but on a day when most of the team had below performances we had to settle for silver behind Bedford missing out by 8 seconds. Ben Jones lead is off with a solid 12.06, Alan Stewart was next in 12.33 then Mike Rimmer running 12.30 with anchor man Rory Smith  running 12.26 to bring us home second. The under 15s came 16th with Robert Stocks 12.52, David Wilkie 13.55, Tom McCarten 14.00 and Steve Balckhurst 14.50. To add to their disappointment Liverpool Harriers passed us in the home straight! In the under 13s Ben Jones lead off in 8.35 followed by Robert Bland 8.25 then running the same time of 8.25 was Joe McKenna with Andrew Bowen running 8.58 on the last leg.

Paul Cadwallader 2nd a Mayor of Knowsley Race
Continuing his comeback Paul Cadwallader was a close second to Peter Green of Liverpool H in the Mayor of Knowsley 4 mile held at Halewood Country Park. Over an interesting course Peter & Paul soon broke clear of the field and it was only in the last half mile that Peter Green edge away from Paul. If he is available Paul will make a useful addition to the 12 stage team next week.

Bernie wins from Paul at Croxteth Park 10k
After running the fastest time in the 12 stage yesterday Bernie Murphy did not take long to recover and win the Kenny O’Toole Memorial/Croxteth Park 10k. In a large field of over 300 Bernie and Paul soon broke clear with Bernie getting away on the last lap. It was Paul’s 3rd race in seven days which has saw him with two second places and one third. Joey Parkinson was 4th to make it a very happy and successful day. Many of Kenny’s old mates made the effort to turn out and we had a most enjoyable time with many tales be swapped. Hope to see you all again next year
