Lancs Cross County Champs
Liverpool Pembroke Sefton`s star Under 17 runner, Andrew Bowen, continues to enjoy a fine cross country season. At the Lancashire County Cross Country Championships at Blackburn`s tough Witton Park he collected the silver medal behind Nathan Bibby of Preston. The two were locked together for much of the contest with Bibby`s strength on the park`s notorious hill being the deciding factor. The Northern Championships will be held over the same course in a few week`s time and Bowen can approach this with some confidence. His sister, Emma, was 13th in her age group but there were medals elsewhere for the club. In the Under 15 event Tom Hanlon(11), Jake Helm(12), Michael McCarten(20) and Paul Roberts(24) packed solidly to collect the bronze medals behind Preston and Manx Harriers.7th January 2006
Medals Galore at the Indoor Championships
Liverpool Pembroke Sefton have unearthed another cross country star in the shape of 13 year old Michael Bride. After an astonishing win in the Merseyside championships he went to the Northern Championships at Blackburn with great expectations. He did not disappoint as he hung in with the leaders all the way and only faded to 8th in the long finishing straight. He is certainly one to watch for the future. Maria Barrett was another high finisher recording 23rd spot in a tough field. The Under 15 Boys, Jake Helm(25), Chris Hesketh(39), Dave Forrester(65) and Mike McCarten(91) were a respectable 8th placed team. The Under 17`s could not quite manage this but in Andrew Bowen(34), Kieran Sloan(87), Danny Gordon(113) and Joe McKenna(135) closed in for 11th position.
