LPS Back in top flight next season (24-11-01)
At the end of an interesting if not short winter League season LPS
bounced back to the top flight next season with a win of the new
Division 2 in the Liverpool & District League.
Lead home once again by Bernie Murphy this time in 4th spot and Paul
Cadwallader 5th. LPS came second overall on the day but had the lowest
points tally of all clubs in the 3 Divisions. The popular Beacon Park
course saw another best turnout. Liverpool RC & Wirral both got
their runners out but Liverpool Harriers trumped them all on the day to
take the Division1 title. 12 LPS athletes completed the course. Results |
LPS pack 1.2.3 at Halewood but finish second!(11-11-01)
Despite
packing the first 3 runners home at Halewood LPS had to settle for
second place as once again it was left to club secretary Robbie Wood to
close in the team. Berine Murphy (one of three Murphy's in the LPS
counters today) was the winner followed by Paul Cadwallader and Brian
Currie. Bernie's little brother Steve was next in 20 place followed by
yet another Steve Murphy (no relation) in 30 place. Robbie Wood closed
in the team in 41 place. A weak tail allowed Liverpool RC to claim their
first L&D victory. LPS look good to bounce back to the top flight
next season with one league fixture remaining. Results |

victory to go with the win at Sefton Park. The under 15s also won their
race with Robert Stocks 2, David Wilkie 7 Tom McCarten 12 and Steve
Blackhurst 19. Under13s kept up the high standards with Robert Bland 3,
