Gold for Michael, Silver for
Kiera @AAAs
10 August
Michael Rimmer retained AAAs under 17 800 in 1:53. In what turned out to be
a last minute decision to run Michael and coach John Bradshaw decided for one
more race to cap off a very successful season. Kiera Vogel who is having
an excellent season collected a silver medal in the under 17s 3000 in
10.19.57. Kiera has maintained her commitment to the sport in the last few
years and this has been rewarded with some impressive runs both on the
track and on the country.
Michael medal list this
year reads; gold as a member of the National cross country under 17 team
at Bristol in February. North of England under 17 800 champion at
Manchester, a silver in the AAAs under 20 800 championship, a new personal
best and a new club record of 1:50;55 last Wednesday at Trafford. English
School championship gold medal at 800. It will be rest and recovery
time now for Michael and John's other lads who now be looking with an eye to early cross country and perhaps the road relays in October..Results |
Michael Rimmer runs 1.50.55 New Club Record 6 August
I am sure Dave Dudley will smile as his club record for the 800 of 1:50:99
was at last broken broken by a sixteen year old Michael Rimmer.
Michael has had a truly magnificent season.
(writes Charles Gains)The
800m specialist has not lost and has collected several titles including
the English Schools championship. As the season draws to a close along
with his coach John Bradshaw he had planned an attack on the British Under
17 record at a Stretford evening meeting Without the help of a pacemaker
he raced to a personal best of 1.50.55 only a fraction of a second off the
best time previously recorded by Leeds runner, Mark Sesay. He still has
one more big chance to achieve this time, at the AAA Under 17
Championships. Even if this is not forthcoming second on the all time
British list is very satisfying.
One fixture which remains to be completed is the
Inter Club Championship later this month at
Cudworth, perhaps we might see Michael then!

Great Results at Derby 3 August
It
was the turn of Liverpool Pembroke Sefton's senior men to complete their
season.
(writes Charles Gains)
The A team travelled to Derby for the Dision 1 match with a team
strengthened by some of the club's most promising youngsters. A good
result was expected but astonishingly they only narrowly failed to steal
the match by 9 points from the local Derby outfit who ran up a score of
339 points. There were were good wins from Phil Taylor in the 200m in 22.5
and Michael Rimmer with a 400m victory in 48.9. The club also took the 4 x
400m relay, a long time favourite event. However, it was the depth in
strength that secured the result with numerous second and third placing
throughout the five hour track and field programme. No fewer than four big
city clubs, Gateshead, Leeds, Hull and Lincoln were left languishing by
the Ormskirk based team. Early season problems were forgotten as LPS
finished third overall in the league. Club captain, Paul Jamieson, was
delighted and his ambition to capture the Northern crown next season was
reinforced by this outstanding performance.

Women's Match washed out!!
4 August
Over at Bebington the Senior Women witnessed the highly unusual occurrence
of a match being abandoned due to a thunderstorm flooding the track. They
were lying fifth at that stage, a position they expect to finish overall
in their respective league
Then it happened. It rained. Actually it poured. Proceedings were halted.
The league rules are clear. If 25 events have not been completed the
result is declared null and void. Thankfully, the team managers all agreed
to score the three events
in progress when the match was stopped. LPS winners at Bebington 4 August

Brave effort by B team fails to Save day
3 August
The club's B team were less fortunate in Division 4 at Liverpool's
Wavertree track. Early season results had already condemned the squad to
relegation but a fighting performance typical throughout the club this
year saw them finish 4th with a mixture of youth and veteran inputs.
Clearly they are well capable of immediately bouncing back from this
setback.
