Taylor & Murray run pbs indoors (24-02-02)
On a busy weekend for LPS athletes it
was another trip down the motorway this time only as far as Birmingham
for the AAA under 20s indoor championships. Phil Taylor kept up his
impressive form with two pbs on his way to the final in the 400. His
reward was a 5th placing and a 49.17. Not to be outdone John Murray also
made the final of the under 17s 400 event and was also 5th in a new pb
of 51.83. Also in that age group Dave Stroud got into the semis with a
53.83 which was also a new pb. Danny Holland and Paul Edwards ran the 60
metre in 7.5 & 7.7. Nicky Gunderson has taken to the indoors and ran another pb of 2.16.85 in the under 20s 800. Coaches Ray Twentyman and Tricia Farrell will be pleased with this form and must have high hopes for the coming T&F season (Photo Derek Baker) |
Alan Stewart leads us to National Title(23-02-02)
LPS picked up their second National
Cross Country Title in six years as our Under 17 men won their
Championship Title at a windswept Ashton Park Bristol. On an interesting and well laid out course Alan Stewart was always in contention
with the leading group and was rewarded for his gutsy run with a 9th
place in this quality field. Rory Smith was next home in 19th place Ben
Jones & Michael Rimmer closed the team into victory in 49th &
50th places. Chris Watson 59th, Rob Walsmsley 65th, David Philips 112nd,
Andrew Donaldson 125th and Ian Revell 142nd all contributed to
this outstanding result. A tense 40 minutes was had by all the LPS party
as we waited for the results which were received with great pleasure.
This caps a wonderful season for these lads who have won the Counties
(both Merseyside & Lancashire) the Northern Championships and now
the icing on the cake the National. Much praise must go to John Bradshaw
& Dave Jeffs for their hard work and enlighten views. These lads
have done not only LPS proud but also local athletics. ResultsStaying in the same age group LPS ladies came home a very respectable 8th with Kiera Vogel first home in 59th place next was Laura Davenport in 78th with Michelle Barret 116 & Amy Potter 129 Results Our junior men performed well and 11th with Henry Stewart leading this team home in 70th, followed by Mark Donoghue 92nd and Dan Hutton 93 with Tom wade closing us in 112 Results On such a memorable day it was a pity that we could not field a senior men's team! Bernie Murphy 81st and Jon Rice 140th ran well in what turned into a snowstorm with gale force winds for this the final race of the day. (Photo Charles Gains) Results |
| Greg Callaghan Leads us home at Parbold (16-02-02) On a bright and sunny February afternoon 5 LPS athletes made the short trip to Parbold for the 32nd running of this popular event. Not to be out done by the athletes LPS Officials turned out in even larger numbers to help make this yet another successful day for our Skem/Boundary friends. Coming home in 23rd place Greg was followed home by Robbie Wood 80th 52.07, 98 John Dobie 53.30, 104 Dave Fairclough 53.40 and Gill Darby 166 58.14. Out of the 403 finishers 243 were over the age of 40! What does this tell us about about our sport at this level? To complete an enjoyable afternoon the guest beer at the Farmers Arms 'Bombardier', was in top form and did not touch the sides. After a hard seven mile slog over hills through mud (and more) it was just the ticket Results |
