Busy Bank Holiday weekend for LPS Athletes 3 May
The Senior men and women opened their campaign
at Stockport. Rejoining the club after a sojourn in the United States Dave
Readle produced top class performances with triple wins in the
Shot(16.06), Discus(41.38) and Hammer(45.55). With veterans Mark Line and
Merrik Bousfield providing strong B event support it was a clean sweep of
the Men`s throws. Clearly the throws squad at Edge Hill College is
thriving as Natalie Walsh(27.32) and clubmate Keri Massey(24.57) did
exactly the same in the Women`s Discus. Michael Rimmer is a joy to watch
making 3.58.8 for the 1500m look like a stroll in the park. Club mate Ben
Jones took the B race. Decathlete Jon Rice added to the first placings
with a 110m High Hurdles in 16.3 and High Jump of 1.90m. Not to be outdone
by the men Helen Green won the B 400m in 65.4 aand Long Jump with 4.18 and
Nicki Bear the 800m in 2.21.9. Debbie Sephton`s High Jump of 1.55 was well
clear of the opposition. It was a fine afternoon for the local club. The
controversial new scoring system saw the club place overall third to
Trafford and Blackburn.Full Results
Nathan wins Waterloo 15k
Another victory by Nathan Vengdasalam to follow on his
recent bridge race win last month was the order of the day at Blundell Sands
as LPS kept up their excellent record at this very popular event. His
winning margin of over a minute was enough for the recently turned 40
Nathan, who last won this event in 2000 was also a runner up in 1999 behind
the late Benson Masha. Paul Cadwallader making a welcome return to racing
was 4th. Paul also a previous winner of this event in 2002 & 2001 will make
a useful addition to LPS options in the coming months. Another interesting
name spoted in the results was Steve Murphy who has not raced for some time
came home in 33rd place.
To add to another successful day Adam Clancy won the 5k open event at this
meeting.
