Doran runner up in
the rankings 4 December
The recently published UK
track and field rankings for 2005 places Liverpool
Pembroke Sefton athlete, Harry Doran, second in the
Under 15 400m. Doran is a mere five hundreths of a
second off top spot in a scintillating 50.82 which is
additionally the tenth best of all time. He joins club
mate Michael Rimmer in the dizzy heights of the sport.
Rimmer had previously been ranked second as well in the
Under 20 800m. Another local sprinter appears among the
country's elite. Nathan Hilton is 11th in the same 400m
list as Doran in 52.3 and also manages a very
respectable 23.36 200m to claim the national 16th spot.
The rise of LPS track
athletes contrasts with the struggling senior men's
cross country fortunes. After an encouraging 4th placing
in the previous Liverpool and District League fixture
they were at Beacon Park for the final match. Numerous
absences meant there was barely a team available.
However, Adam Clansey came home 12th followed by Steve
Donegan who was a pleasing 20th. Mark Leicester made 43
with veterans, Robbie Wood(69), Gill Darby(95) and
Richie Webster(107) closing in for seventh team place. For
a club that once dominated the local scene these are
difficult times.
