Astonishing run by Jake Helm 30
April
Our Young Athletes were at Ellesmere
Port for the opening match of their season. The most outstanding
result was achieved by Jake Helm in the U15 800m. He literally ran
away from the rest of the field winning by the length of the
straight in a Grade 1 time of 2.6.05. Unsurprisingly he was named
Male Athlete of the Match.
Another Grade 1 performance came from
Ashley Kenny in the U17 Triple Jump of 9.41m. If Wayne Ashhall had
been pressed in his U17 400m, a sharp 51.8, he too would be joining
the top rank. It can only be a matter of time. Grade 2, 3 and 4
results cascaded, the real measure of success not the points
garnered. in the Under 17s Harry Doran won the 100m in 11.5 with
team mate Danny Higham collecting the B event in 11.9. Andrew Bowen
was an unbelievable distance clear of the next athlete in the 1500m
Steeplechase in 4.44.4. It was a real delight to see a Pole Vaulter
in the shape of Jakob Shaw(2.65m) who added this to his High Jump
victory of 1.68m. As usual the throwers did well with Darren
Boswarva a Hammer victor with 21.07m also a B Javelin win of 35.85m.
Among the Girls Emily Carr was well clear with a Javelin throw of
25.61m.
At Under 15 Sam McVann(62.8) teamed up
with Simon Birch(68.6) to romp away with maximum points at 400m. Sam
also took the B 100m in 13.8. Michael Bridge backed up Jake Helm to
win the B 800m. Winners among the Girls were Emma Bowen(880m in
2.29.7), Fay Atkins(4.53m HJ) and Rebecca White(B 1500m). Four
winners among the Under 13s were Drew Atherton(100m in 14.9), Annie
McLaughlin(70m Hurdles 13.4), Amy Robinson(Shot 6.57m) and Alice
Donnelly a B Long Jump.
With sparkling relay wins...Male Under
17 both 4 x 400m and 4 x 100m and Under 15 4 x 400m the club was
bound to do well. Overall second to West Cheshire will be deemed
more than satisfactory by team managers at this point in the season.
