Astonishing
U17 400m rankings 18 November
For Liverpool Pembroke Sefton the publicity this
year has naturally gone to the achievements of
Britain's No1 800m runner Michael Rimmer ( World
Championships Semi-Final) and the club's brace of
European gold medallists, Wayne Ashall(Under 18 4 x
100m relay) and Phil Taylor (Indoor 4 x 400m). The
eagerly awaited National Top 20 rankings now reveal
a veritable production line of class 400m runners at
the Edge Hill University track. The club can boast
no fewer than 3 in the Under 17 list. In third place
is Harry Doran with 48.51 for whom an early season
injury probably cost him an international vest. In
7th spot is Nathan Hilton with 49.14 while Daniel
Higham is 20th with 50.20. No other club in the
country can match this achievement.
Just to demonstrate that this is not LPS's only
strength Christopher Hesketh turns up in the 1500m
Steeplechase rankings in 15th position with an
impressive 4.35.04.

Brilliant run from
Loveridge 11th November
Since joining Liverpool
Pembroke Sefton from Lincolnshire in the summer Under 15
Toby Loveridge has made remarkable progress. In a
Mid-Lancashire Cross Country League race at Burnley he
showed confidence and composure to win his race
comfortably. With Mike Bride(3), Ed Rimmer(7) and Sean
Kirkbride(14) the club had yet another winning team and
spectators were reminded that last season a similar
group went on to win the Northern title. John
Meakin(15), Adam Goldfarb(31), Matthew Scragg(35) and
Joe Hanlon(39) were 7th team demonstrating the club`s
depth of strength in this age group.
The Under 17s enjoyed a
second team placing with David Forrester 3rd and
beginning to show his immense talent once again, Paul
Roberts(13), Jake Helm(20) and Tom Hanlon(22). The Under
13s were also in the placings with George Curran(6),
Warren Turner(10), Andrew Hutchinson(13) and Darren
McDonald(32) taking third spot, Ben Haines(33) and Adam
Dible(35) were in reserve. There was a lone Under 11
competitor in the shape of Aaron Quinn(18) and the
club`s two juniors Andrew Bowen(35) and Rob
McLaughlin(36) ran together in the senior race.
Some of the LPS Girls are
beginning to grow in confidence and edge up the field
including U11 Charlotte Haines(15), U13 Erin Devlin(44)
and U15`s Jade Hislop(16) and Nicole Garner(32). The two
Emmas Bowen(9) and Binns(12) ran their usual sound races
and Seniors Kirsty Longley(11) and Katie Highfield(81)
also had creditable performances.
Results
Over at Skelmersdale Beacon
in the Liverpool and District Senior League match Bernie
Murphy was in fine form on his favourite course
finishing 8th while super-vets Graham Cairns(21) and
Jeff Mason(52) also produced good runs. Unavoidable
absentees contributed to the club not finishing a team.
The prospects look better for the next encounter at
Sefton Park which includes the UK Cross Challenge
league. Results

National Cross Country
Relays 3 November
Liverpool Pembroke Sefton have
previously enjoyed some success and high placings in the
National Cross Country Relays traditionally held at
Mansfield. The present Under 15 squad is growing in
confidence and Ed Rimmer led the team off in 18th place with
a timing of 6.43.45. Mike Bride was not at his best but
pulled the club up to 10th with a 6.42.65 posting. Toby
Loveridge charged through to a final 7th spot out of 77
teams with 6.35.55. The club was a mere 21 seconds off the
bronze medal and with the hard sharpening in training that
will now take place at Edge Hill University before Christmas
they can look forward to some good results in the New Year.
The club`s B team of Sean Kirkbride(6.54.80), Adam
Goldfarb(7.48.55) and Joe Hanlon(7.42.80) were 65th. An
Under 17 team was led off with a sharp 9.36.50 by David
Forrester followed by Chris Hesketh(10.10.15) and Tom
Hanlon(10.22.45) finally finishing 35th in this very tough
competition. Results
Due to some confusion in results we were unable to record
in the original report the following...
Our Under 13 teams are continuing to show signs of
improvement. Warren Turner(7.40.80), George Curran(7.51.50)
and Adam Dible(8.13.50) combined to finish a respectable
38th. Andrew Hutchinson(7.38.20), Jonathan Bride(8.59.60)
and Ben Haines(8.35.00) were not far adrift in 50th spot
helped by an inspired run from Andrew whose performance was
the most eye-catching of the group.
Our Junior Men were 35th. Andrew Bowen(9.50.75), Rob
McLaughlin(10.32.75) and Danny Gordon(10.04.15)
The end of year Track and Field
rankings have started to appear and the Top 20 is a target
for all ambitious athletes. LPS already has two in the Under
20 400m. The club`s GB European Youth relay gold medallist,
Wayne Ashall, is ranked 15th with a time of 48.34. Not far
behind in 17th place is Harry Doran with 48.51 although
Doran is overall 4th in the Under 17`s. This will come as
something of a consolation for a season ruined by an injury.
