Silver medals
for LPS Under 15s 7th October
Liverpool Pembroke
Sefton hosted the North of England Young Athletes
Road Relays on a beautiful day at Croxteth Park. The
club`s reputation for collecting medals in these
championships was further enhanced as the Under 15
boys rose to the
occasion
with a magnificent second place. Ed Rimmer was first
away and ran a sound 11.00 on Leg 1 in ninth spot.
Newcomer from Lincolnshire, Toby Loveridge,
obviously delighted with his new club, was the
fastest on his stage with 10.43 lifting LPS to 5th.
Although losing valuable seconds on the final
changeover Mike Bride showed his class charging past
3 runners and recording the second fastest time of
the day with 10.23, only 6 seconds off the
victorious Warrington team. John Meakin(11.27) and
Peter Gaskell(14.42) competed but without a final
runner. The club had two Under 13 teams George
Curran(12.55), Warren Turner(12.18) and Andrew
Hutchinson(13.05) who were 12th and Adam
Dibble(12.57), David McDonald(13.41) and Ben
Haines(13.41) who were 14th.
At the other end of the
age scale LPS had runners in the massive Liverpool
10k Road Race in Sefton Park which attracted over
2000 competitors. Running brilliantly Bernie Murphy
finished 5th with 33.09 and collected the first Over
40 prize. His preparation for the Amsterdam Marathon
in a few weeks time looks well on course. Likewise
Graham Cairns was 17th in 35.42, this time
collecting the first Over 50 award. The
indefatigable Kirsty Longley, 79th in the race in
39.22, was 6th Female home.
