Kirsty in great form 19th October
Kirsty in great form Liverpool Pembroke Sefton star, Kirsty Longley, was
in great form at Southport's Victoria Park in the Asics Natterjack 10K
Road Race, comfortably taking first in the Women's race with 38.44, a
personal best that she will try to lower to sub-38 before the year is
out. New member Lisa Gawthorne posted a very good 44.28 timing. Another
indication of the club's growing senior women possibilities. Elsewhere
in the men's category Adam Clansey ran 34.40.
Strong performance from LPS in National Road Relay Championships 19th
October
The Liverpool Pembroke Sefton Under 17 and Under 15 squads were at
Sutton Coldfield for the National 3 Stage Road Relay Championships. The
club has a good record in this event and it was no surprise they figured
prominently in the U17 event. On Stage 1 Toby Loveridge ran a strong
lead-off finishing 16th in 12.28. Mike Bride(13th) improved with a 12.40
timing leaving it to David Forrester(12.08) to storm through a further 5
places and ensure LPS was first home(8th) of the Northern clubs. The B
trio of Jake Helm(48th with 13.07), Chris Hesketh(35th with 13.16) and
Sean Dignam(13.45) closed in 36th. Overall a good indication of the
club's potential for the cross country season. Alistair Nelson in only
his second outing for the club ran an impressive 19th(13.13) on Stage 1
of the U15 event and with the assistance of George Curran(35th with
14.25) and a strong finish from Sean Kirkbride(13.38) secured 25th spot.
Also in back up were a B team of Kyle Nicholls( 71st with 14.50), Warren
Turner (66th with 15.29) and David Reece(61st with 16.03). The potential
here also suggests a good winter.

running when he placed 3rd over 40 in the Great North Run on 5th October
with a time 1:15:32. After a couple of difficult years with injury Sammy
is obviously back in good form.

Alistair shines 5th October
The Northern Athletics Young Athletes Relays were held at the
picturesque Croxteth Hall on a sunny afternoon and provided some early
winter season racing opportunities for clubs. There is always a pleasant
surprise packet and this year it took the form of Under 15 Alister
Nelson. The Burscough Priory schoolboy had only taken up serious running
with the Liverpool Pembroke Sefton a few months ago but was so highly
rated by coach, John McCarten, he was given the tough lead spot in the
three stage race. In spite of facing the best in the north in his first
race he showed great maturity to come home in 9th place in 10.52. As he
is at the lower end of the age group and available again next year this
was even more impressive. It was to be the club's best time although
both George Curran(11.19) and Sean Kirkbride(11.19) put in strong runs
and edged the club home in 7th.The B team of Kyle Nicholls(12.35),
Warren Turner(12.28) and David Reece(12.35) were 23rd.
The LPS Under 13 squad are also looking good for the coming cross
country matches and could shine in the Mid-Lancs League. Nathan
Browne(12.12), James Grundy(12.50) and Albert Curran(13.05) were 12th
but also had support in 20th place with Ben Haines(13.48), Jonathan
Bride(14.01) and Chris Watkinson(13.33). An encouraging day for the club
especially as it was promoting the event on its own territory.
Organiser,
Robbie Wood, yet again did a wonderful showcasing job for the sport.
