Rhea sparkles at Burnley 19 December
Withe the post-Christmas championships looming Liverpool Pembroke Sefton
runners took advantage of the Mid-Lancs Cross Country League match at
Burnley's Townley Park for a final work out. In the Senior Women's race
Rhea Ellis demonstrated that she has definitely recaptured the
confidence and panache of her younger years to come home second and
raise expectation for the County and Northern Championships in January.
She also recorded her first win over club mate Kirsty Longley who put in
her usual fighting performance but a minute adrift in fourth spot.
Both Under 15 and Under 17 Boys events had key runners unavailable but
rose to the occasion magnificently with a double team win. The U15s were
led home by James Grundy(3) followed by Warren T urner(4), Kyle
Nicholls(12) and David Reece(20) with Robert Parkinson(21) just out of
the counters. At U17 Mike Bride(8), Ed Rimmer(10) and Sean Kirkbride(11)
packed solidly to stave off the opposition with Michael Wilson(12) also
in close attendance.
Jack Crook continued his good run of U11 success with a fine 3rd placing
while his U13 counterparts Ben Haines(23) and Jonathan Bride(32) were teamless on this occasion. The club`s U13 Girls, however, were not and
Kaye Walker(33), Charlotte Haines(35), Georgina Hannaway(37) and Beth
Deary(53) closed in 6th. At U11 Charlotte Mawdsley was 24th.

Strong performance from Toby Loveridge 12
December
Running in the Merseyside Schools Cross Country League at Wavertree Toby
Loveridge turned in another fine performance winning the Senior race by
50 yards from LPS team mate Jai Vernon-McGuigan. Other club members Mike
Bride(4), Ed Rimmer(6) and Sean Dignam(11) were in close support. At U16
Michael Wilson was 4th followed by Sean Kirkbride 5th. Another
significant run came from James Grundy who was second at U14. In the U13
Jonathan Bride was 26th.
The final Liverpool and District League match took place on a muddy
Beacon Park. The club turned out nine runners yet again but still way
off full strength. Newcomer triathlete Ian Roberts looked comfortable in
finishing a highly creditable 13th with Chris Pedder 23rd. Super vet
Jeff Mason continues to astound with 35th and then there was a clutch of
the Coventry based Clark Roberts(45), an injured Bernie Murphy(49) and
Junior Tom Hanlon(50). Robbie Wood(82) had one of his best runs in many
years with Keith Lester(87) pressing hard. John Bebbington was 104th.
Although only 7th team on the day previous good performances ensured LPS
ran out 4th overall.
