Rimmer runs even quicker 29 August
In a season of ups ands downs Michael Rimmer left it to his last 800m
race in Rieti to run a magnificent 1.43.89 and finish 4th behind world
record breaker David Rudisha (Kenya) 1.41.01, Boaz Lalang (Kenya)
1.42.95 ands Nick Symonds (USA) 1.43.76. Significantly he edged out
Marcin Lewandowski(Poland) 1.44.10 a man he has continually battled with
this summer. The European silver medallist will reflect on this as his
truly great breakthrough year and one that carries him into the ranks of
legendary British two lappers. This time hoists him to sixth on the
All-Time list which is still led by Seb Coe but takes him ahead of his
hero Steve Ovett.

Northern Inter Counties Track & Field

9 LPS athletes made the long journey north to compete in this year's

was the sole Lancashire representative, but she equalled her PB(1.60m)
in winning the U15 high jump & helped the county to second place behind
winners Yorkshire.
Billy Williams was the only senior man competing, finishing 2nd in the
high jump (1.85m) whilst Abbey McComb 3rd in the pole vault(1.70m) &
Rachel Hutchinson 4th in the shot putt( 7.60m) competed for the senior

years.

Disappointing end of season for Michael 13
August
Along with most of the successful European Championships GB squad
Michael Rimmer had a disappointing end of season run at the Aviva London
Grand Prix at Crystal Palace. Again cruelly boxed in along the back
straight he was never in a position to challenge the talented 800m field
which saw the Sudanese athlete Abubaker Kaki come home in 1.44.38.
Michael visibly slowed and his 1.46.51 sufficed only for 8th spot. He
will bypass the Commonwealth Games and now face the long winter months
of preparation for next year's World Championships

Michael impressive in Stockholm 6
August
It was a crowded but talented field that lined up for the Diamond
Leage 800m in Stockholm. Michael
Rimmer was in the middle of the pack at the bell
and then found himself boxed along the back straight. With 200m to go
Rimmer's current nemesis the Pole,
Marcin Lewandowski, took off but Michael was quick
enough to extricate himself, get on the outside of the pack in the
finishing straight and steam for home. Again, though, the Pole proved
stronger recording 1.45.06 but only a hairsbreadth away from the fast
finishing LPS star who was timed at 1.45.11. In their wake were three
good Kenyans and three Americans. This demonstrated once more that 2010
has been the year he will remember as confirming his status among the
best in the world.

LPS third at Wavertree 1 August
The LPS club was buzzing with excitement after 800m star Michael
Rimmer's magnificent 800m silver medal in the European Championships as
they went about the more mundane task of ensuring they secured their
position in Division 2W in the final Northern League match at Wavertree.
While the Trafford and West Cheshire clubs were clearly going to occupy
the top positions a fascinating three way duel developed between the
host club , St Helens Sutton and Liverpool Harriers for the day's third
slot. All had dug deep into their reserves and there were some very
mature individuals pulling on a vest for a slice of local pride. Several
nail biting moments but a late surge by LPS carried them successfully to
third with 341 points to the Harriers 337 and St Helens 329. Overall 4th
but that will do the club this year.
Harry Doran had a nice double taking the 100m(11.1) and 200m(22.7) while
Nathan Hilton(49.1) and Wayne Ashall (50.4) paired up to take premier
400m spots. There was another similar neat result in the Triple Jump,
Dean Matthews(13.22m) and Dave Street(11.65m).There were workmanlike
performances everywhere especially Mark Line and Michael Carmona-Jones
in the throws The relays are always a joy and the sprint quartet of
Danny Higham, Wayne Ashall, Mark Leicester and Nathan Hilton combined to
easily win the 4 x 100m in 43.9. Although fewer in number the women
responded equally well, most notably Alice Donnelly and Zoe Rafferty who
both recorded 1.45m in taking the High Jump.
