57 different varieties 18 September
The club was allocated the number 57 for the NW Relays at Leigh and a team made up of Greg Callaghan, Chris Pedder, Mark Bleasdale and Paul Walsh certainly lived up to the title `different'. They were the clubs only entry in these relays but age was no deterrent to enthusiasm. Greg was particularly outstanding in spite of spending the previous day on a gruelling bike ride to Gretna Green and ran a time in the low 16 minute area. Chris was equally impressive and both Mark and Paul rolled back the years with gutsy runs. Keith Lester is going to have a good year. He ran solo on the first leg for the B team and might well have edged Paul's time. The next time they meet will be interesting! I expect a few glasses were lifted that evening. A job well done. The reader will gather that the results have not yet been published. Website Manager, Robbie Wood, was present to support and regale with stories about a recent cultural trip to Lisbon. He will get the results here eventually.

Don't hold you breath I am told these results will take some sorting out!

Billy Williams on a high 4 September
The Open Meeting at Litherland provided what for many would be the last competitive outing of the Track and Field season. These more relaxed gatherings are enjoyed by Billy Williams and he seized the opportunity to take his personal best to an impressive 1.92m. Team mate Simon Brazier went to 1.70m and there were others from the High Jump `academy' on display, U13 Owen Pritchard(1.45m), U17 Kate Doran(1.61m) and U15 Amelia McLaughlin(1.58m). Long Jumper U15 Zac Ellis looked good with 5.01m and there were a string of others Rachel Clarke, Zoe Rafferty, Annabel Lewis, Georgina Hathaway, Ruth Doran, Holly Lewis, Amy Aitcheson, Kai Finch, Sicaly Finch, and Joy Penny showing good form before the long winter schedules kick in. It wasn't all youngsters as decathlete Vet Mark Line, collected a useful Javelin throw of 43.17, a Discus pitch of 34.36m and even a Long Jump of 5.53m. Results
