Strong performance from Senior Women 26 November
The local cross country leagues were incorporated into the McCain Cross Country Challenge at Sefton Park. Some good performances in the Mid-Lancs League but attention is constantly being drawn to the club`s Senior Women quartet who are turning into an irresistible force. Led by the inspirational Kirsty Longley in third place Steph Swift(9), Lauren Wilson(22) and for good measure Lisa Gawthorne(29), the club swept aside the strong Accrington squad for first spot. Continued improvement could secure the league title and a place in the Liverpool Pembroke Sefton history book.

There were other exciting prospects among the club`s female contingent. Rosie Johnson was second in the U15 race with Kate Walker(19) and Georgina Hannaway(37). Another rising star, Morag Molyneux, was fourth in the U13s with Rachel Knowles(14), Charlotte Cassleton(27) and Kate Croft(29) for fourth team. The U11 Barnsley girls Morag(11) and Megan(14) at U11 are also on the up with Holly Miller(34) additionally in attendance.

There are some very strong teams in the U13 Boys and in spite of good runs fom Liam Bibby(6) and Jack Crook(10) and support from Josh Forrest(25), Michael Croft(40) plus Joe Marshall(45) and Max Cotterill(46) LPS could only manage fourth. The U15s were down to fifth with Ben Singleton(25), Chris Webber(29), Jonathan Bride(35) and Joseph Chadderton(37). However, the U17 Men prospered better led by two excellent performances from Warren Turner in second spot and Ryan Blackwell only seconds away in seventh. Together with the support of Dave Reece(27) second team was secured. Rob Parkinson was 37th.

In the Liverpool and District the Senior Men were greatly weakened and produced one of their poorest results in recent seasons, finishing seventh on the day. All present though ran very well. Ben Costello was a solid 14th but the club had to track back to 34th for veteran Sammy Rashid who produced an astonishing late burst of speed to overtake Ed Rimmer(36). Other ultra-reliable vets Chris Pedder(60) and Greg Callaghan(70) and Robbie Wood(119) completed the team but John Dobie aged 65 was around to still amaze in 159th.

High Jump coach Dave McComb has had an astonishing couple of years as he has seen Dave & Ameliamany of his group make the upper reaches of the national rankings most notably Amelia McLoughlin, English Schools champion. Now in the West Lancashire Sports Award evening sponsored by the Advertiser, he has been named `Coach of the Year' for 2011. He follows John Bradshaw who was similarly honoured last year. The club has had a remarkable run of success in these awards and is recognised as an outstanding club in the area. Stunning run from Toby Loveridge at Mansfield 4 November

The English Cross Country Relays at Mansfield are always viewed as an important indicator of both individual and team Toby In action at Mansfieldprospects for the impending season. The Liverpool Pembroke Sefton star, Toby Loveridge, seized the occasion to demonstrate his talent. Running first stage of the Junior race he was fourth (8.53.60) to hand over but barely three seconds down on the leader and subsequently seventh placed fastest overall. He is clearly flourishing at the superb facilities of St Mary`s University College, Twickenham under the tutelage of national coach, Mick Woods. His next target will be the European Trials at Sefton Park later in the month. The rest of his team mates could not match this ferocious speed, Sean Kirkbride (9.51.55) slipping to 14th and Eddy Rimmer (10.22.00) coming home 22nd, a very respectable position nevertheless and first local club.

This performance somewhat overshadowed an excellent team effort from the club`s Under 13s. Liam Bibby(7.14.18) took sixth spot on stage 1 and watched Jack Crook (7.35.90) gain a place while Joe Martin(8.06.45) fought hard but slipped back to 13th. In national terms this is impressive particularly as there were only three other Northern clubs in front. The Under 17 men also had an encouraging early season run out, James Grundy(9.54.60), Alistair Nelson(9.55.50) and Kyle Nicholls(10.36.65) combining for 30th, eye-catching yet again in local terms. David Reece(11.32.90) was a lone B team competitor. Altogether a `good day at the races' for LPS. Results
