Our Home Track
LPS moved from Kirkby stadium to its present track at Edge Hill University in 1997. Facilities at ‘Sporting Edge’ have improved over the years and last September a new reception and cafe area, with excellent views of the track, was opened.
The club also has an allocated room base overlooking the track where athletes can leave their belongings and do stretches & warm up exercises. The club also has access to a sports hall and dance studio where circuit training takes place at various times of the year.
Sporting Edge is currently in the first phase of a major redevelopment programme and work on a new 8-lane track is due to be started in early 2013.
Young Athletes
New youngsters are encouraged to spend a couple of weeks training at the club, trying different events, before they would be asked to join. Training takes place 2 nights per week, on a Tuesday & Thursday evening, from 6.30pm
All LPS coaches are volunteers and are fully qualified UKA coaches and all have ‘Enhanced CRB clearance’ to work with young people.
Membership
We currently have only 2 forms of membership:-
Senior membership £30 Senior Membership Form 2011/12
Junior membership, including students £25. Junior Membership Form 2011/12
Athletes must be 10 years of age to join the club.
In addition, there is a track fee to be paid at Sporting Edge at each training session. This is currently £2.30, but the majority of youngsters invest in a 6-month (£32.50) or 12 month (£59) track permit. This works out at 62p per session for those youngsters who attend 2 nights per week and is a far more economical way of paying. Swipe cards are issued and need to be swiped at each session attended.
