Keeping up with the Joneses

Many thanks to our Ladies Cross Country Captain, Debbie Crook, for the report on a very successful Parbold Hill race for LPS. There’s lot’s of noteworthy performances but a special mention to Dan Jones – who won this years gruelling event and to his brother Adam for more dives than Tom Daly.

Dan Jones on his way to PHR 2024 win

Here’s Debbie’s report:

LPS were out in force for this year’s Parbold Hill Race, with 16 athletes lining

up on the start line. The conditions underfoot were a world away from last year’s race, being quoted as the “wettest under foot” by many runners. However this didn’t stop LPS athletes from dominating the race.
At the Lancaster Lane junction Dan Jones came through with Daniel Miller (Billinge Running Club) hot
on his heels… Unphased by this and looking comfortable Dan used the notorious Parbold Hill to
execute his attack, eventually crossing the finish line over a minute ahead of the former winner.
Keeping up the good work we had Tom Fair (4th ) and Tom Harkin (5th ) with Tom H winning his age
category. Adam Jones (12th ) had a fantastic run considering his – what I think he’ll forgive me for
saying “questionable footwear”. Who knows with the right footwear we could have a Jones 1-2 next
year.

Reuben Anderson had a baptism of fire for his first PHR finishing in a strong 23rd place. I look
forward to seeing what is to come from this young Athlete, who is just getting better every race.

For some a bit further into their running career we had Chris Pedder coming in comfortably under the
hour and winning the V65 category, and Mark Hudson finishing just outside to finish 2nd V60.

There’s just so many people who did brilliantly so please find a link below for the full results.

Moving onto the Ladies we had four brave souls, with Kate Sutcliffe, and Rachel Yates finishing 2nd &
4th overall, then the ‘Dynamic Duo’ that is Tracey Berry and Sharon Roberts, sticking together and
finishing off the Ladies Team.
We also had one athlete who had to retire from the race due to injury, so we wish them a speedy
recovery.
Well done to all who ran and for anyone who fancies giving it a go next year, entries usually open in December and places fill up fast, so make a note in your diary.
