Stadt Moers Park in Whiston traditionally provides cross country runners with a roller coaster challenge. For the final race of the local District League Liverpool Pembroke Sefton mustered some 11 runners. Liverpool Harriers have overwhelmed opposition in the past but LPS has begun to field young runners who could rearrange that profile in forthcoming seasons. The trio of Warren Turner, Ryan Blackwell and James Loftus are gaining in confidence and quickly established themselves in the leading bunch. The switchback course took its toll and they slipped back gradually but came home a respectable 7th, 9th and 11th respectively. They are gaining experience and taste for this level of competition. Club captain, Ian Robert, was courageously battling it out fractionally adrift and finishing 15th. Stu Haw ran out 26th and an increasingly confident Danny Gilbody arrived home 40th. Although still some way short of the massive packing the yellow vests still enjoy this result represented too much for other local clubs and both second on the day second overall was ensured. Also enjoying the ups and downs were Chris Pedder(56), Rob Parkinson(61), Robbie Wood(64), Kevin Carroll(82) and a smooth running Vicki Jones(87) testing herself against the men. Results
The same course had provided in the morning the venue for the Merseyside Schools League. LPS is establishing a strong base in both Sacred Heart and Merchant Taylors schools. Year 7 Kyle Robinson-Murray again demonstrated his enormous potential running away from his challengers and watching his Year 9 Sacred Heart colleague Dan Slater taking his race equally comfortably. Matt Richardson was in third spot. Kate Richardson(SH) and Charlotte Graham(SH) occupied 7th and 18th in their Year 7 age group. The Merchant Taylor pairing of Year8/9 Morag Molyneux and Open Age Charlotte Mawdsley both came away with commendable third placings.
Meanwhile the club`s Under 17 star, Rosie Johnson, was looking for a further build-up race before the county championships in the New Year. She chose to run in a Manchester Area League match at Sherdley Park as a guest. She was an untroubled winner and local opponents are now thoroughly aware of her talent as she steps up in this new age group.
