Harry Doran runs 1.52 in the British Championships

Liverpool Pembroke Sefton 400m star, Harry Doran, turned his attention to 800m in the British Indoor Championships at Sheffield. He has already shown promise at this distance and although unable to escape his heat came away with an eye-catching time of 1.52.61. He may yet discover this is his most successful distance. Danny Higham also failed to progress to the final but still posted a quick 400m in 48.81. Amelia McLaughlin has had a fantastic high jump season but found herself in the most exciting head-to-head competition ever as heptathletes Katrina Johnson-Thompson who set a new British record of 1.97m and Morgan Lake(1.94m) enthralled a packed audience. Amelia went out sixth with 1.73m, obviously disappointed, but with much to cherish from the winter months.

Bramley 20, Club stalwart Sammy Rashid made the trip down south to Reading to run in the Bramley 20 as part of his London marathon preparation. After his good run in the L&D champs last weekend it will have come as little surprise to those of who have been following Sammy over the years to see he ran 2.03.51 not bad for a V50. This currently ranks Sammy second nationally in V50 cat. Good luck at London Sammy.

The Parbold Hill Race always attracts large numbers and the 45th running was no exception. After her win the previous week in the Mad Dog 10K Kirsty Longley demonstrated she was rounding into form again but was up against the formidable fell-runner from Horwich, Lindsey Brindle. Kirsty decided on discretion and settled for a relaxed run in 39th overall that brought her second female prize and first over 35. Three other LPS stalwarts toed the line, Greg Callaghan(33) second Over 50, Chris Pedder(48) second O55 and Robbie Wood(80) fourth O55. The organisation of the race was superb once more and a big credit to host club Skelmersdale Boundary Harriers.

There was a modest turn out at the Mid-Lancs Cross Country League match at Blackpool but the Under 15 Boys were inspirational. Daniel Jones(4), Matt Richardson(5) and Joe Martin(7) demolished the opposition with Adam Jones(15) also available. The Women fielded a strong Lauren Wilson(10) with Sam Wade(29) and Vicki Jones(58) and were rewarded with ninth team. Others who made the seaside trip included U13s Katie Richardson(25) and Isobel Fearon(30). U13 Boys saw Joe Houghton a magnificent fourth and Alex Lang 17th. Joe Chadderton(12) ran solo in the U17 race and the club fielded a couple of senior men in the shape of James Loftus(19) and Aaron Jarvis(40) who, nevertheless, were second and fourth Under 20s respectively.
