From Wilmslow to Wavertree, a Lakeland Trail and a Trail Blazer!

A great start to the week as Kirsty Longley finished 3rd lady (1st V45) at the Wilmslow 10k with a time of 35:12. Close behind were Thomas Fair finishing in 35:44 and men’s club captain, Chris Melling , who completed the event in 36:30.

Andy Foster and his OMG team including John Dickinson, Louise Dermot and Colin Bretherton smashed the Lakeland 55km and 23km in incredibly tough conditions. And yes, you read that right, 55km and 23km. That is some achievement with special recognition to Louise Dermot, who finished 2nd lady.

Kew Woods Park run was treated to LPS 1,2 and 3 with Phil Macdonald 1st finisher (19.45) followed by Thomas Harkin (20:10) and Mark Hudson in 20:17.  Although they say it’s not a race, it’s great to see the club represented high up in the rankings.  Even more impressive as Mark Hudson had taken 1st prize in the Tockholes fell race cake eating competition just before.

The club was represented at Sports City, Manchester, in the English Schools finals.  Against tough competition and the heat, Mark Roberts (800m), Sandy Clarkson and Millie O’Hanlon (High Jump) did themselves and LPS proud.

On Sunday it was Match 3 in the Northern League at Wavertree. It was a pretty decent day for the team despite a number of absentees, as we finished 3rd overall.

All of the results can be found here but there were a few stand out performances.

Jared Nichols finishing 1st in the 400m “B” in 54.47, Joe Niven with a superb effort in the 3000m steeplechase finishing 1st in 9:58.  Tony O’Brien took 1st in the “B” race and 2nd overall in 10:35. Tony’s steeplechase time was the fastest V50 this year and would have been fast enough to win the world masters!

Chloe Leather in the 3000m was ultra confident in her run as she put almost 300 metres between herself and the next person to finish 1st in 10:51.

Surprise package of the day was Suzanna Owens, who volunteered to compete in the 800m, shortly after taking 1st place in the pole vault. She smashed the 800m and took 1st place in 2:29.

Anna Peers continues to impress, winning javelin, shot and discuss, which is pretty good going.

Also hitting the heights, literally, was Sandy Clarkson who took a PB of 2.01 in high jump. and Millie O’Hanlon reaching 1.63 in the ladies event.

Back on the track, there was a welcome return for Tiffany Penfold who competed in 800m and 3000m, a huge effort in very warm conditions . Our Warsaw wonder or is it Katowice queen, Joanna Durkin smashed her 1500m PB with a time of 5:29.

As the new week started we were all blown away by Ross Harrison, who took a PB in the 1500 at Trafford with a fabulous time of 3:52. An amazing time but well deserved for the effort of both Ross and coach Mark Bleasdale.
