The “Fin” end of the wedge

Iron man, Ian Myers started the weekend off with the iron man night 5k in a decent 21:25 in Bolton.

Tony O’Brien representing Great Britain, made the trip to Tampere in Finland for the World Masters Athletic championship. Tony’s first event was the 5000m where he finished in a time of 16:09 to claim the bronze medal.  A superb achievement making Tony 3rd best in the world!

Meanwhile over in Halewood, an LPS quintet of Lisa Gawthorne, Mark Wynne, Se Loughlin. John Dobie  and Ste Bolton, all took part in the monthly Walton Centre 5k, where it was a really successful event for the club.  Lisa Gawthorne in 15th position overall was the first lady home in 18:51, which is a course PB for her.  Se Loughlin, continuing his comeback won the race with comfortable finish time of 15:49.  Mark Wynne also recovering from injury, made it a 1,2 for LPS with a time of 16:48.  Duathlon king, Ste Bolton, continued his consistent form with another sub 20 (19:45) and veteran John Dobie, also finishing 1st in the V75 age group completed the course in 26:48.

Andrew Conway, proved that perseverance has benefits as won the Comer Woods5k trail race. A well deserved reward for the effort.

Over the weekend, one of our speed merchants, Elliot Jones, again lowered his club 100m record at Dagenham where he recorded 10.38s legal and 10.28s (w) in two 100m races on the same day. An incredible performance, and only a week after setting his previous record.

On to Sunday when there was a proud moment for LPS as Sarah Grant made her England debut in the V45 category 5k event in Tenby she finished 6th in her age group, 44th overall.

Staying with our ladies, Kirsty Longley won the overall Manchester mile with a personal best of 5.07. Not one for resting on her laurels, she followed up the next day in the Sale sizzler with a course PB of 16:58 after also finishing 3rd at the Podium 5k in 16:55.

Lisa Gawthorne was also keeping busy with a Personal Best of 5:43 in the Manchester mile.

Great performances from these ladies, who all have been recognised at national level.
