Steve Emerson

News reaches us of the tragic early death of Steve Emerson at 52. He ran for Liverpool Pembroke in the late 1980`s and early 1990`s. An injury took him out of the sport but not before he had recorded some excellent times for 10K(31.50), 10 miles(51.46) and Half Marathon(1.10.16). He continued football refereeing for many years.

The service is at Thornton Crematorium this coming Friday, 25th May at 12.40pm.

I can’t believe he’s gone, we had so many battles over the years at different races. Always a great competitor and a fine runner, with some really fast times to his name.

Before and after a race he always had time for you, we use to stop and chat or if i bumped into him whilst out training we would start talking and put a few miles in together, talking running, who was doing what, in what time and where our next race was going to be.

I was sometimes surprised when talking to Steve as very often before a race he had been delivering mail for a couple of hours in his job as a Post Man. Then turn up to race and run a really good time, clearly all that delivering mail did him the world of good.

My deepest sympathy goes out to his wife and children.

A nice guy and a really talented runner.

I was really saddened by the news about Steve. He was a very talented runner and had a deceptive loping style that was very effective in road races. Steve was a real competitor and a genuine nice guy and family man. My condolences to Steve’s family RIP mate.

Steve Emerson was my cousin, but more like a brother to me. He had a great aptitude for sport and was the best amateur footballer I have ever seen. He was offered trials for Preston North End, Tranmere and West Brom.

He later took up running and had immense ability and talent and was able to hold down a job and still compete.

I shall never forget the great times we shared and the laughs we had.

You were one of the best mate!

Yeah, in the old days ran with Ste, Paul, and the gang that John Hanks trained at Kirkby, happy days.
I had not seen Steve for a number of years and remember Steve for not only being a great sportman, but for being a great person…
