Two of Liverpool Pembroke Sefton`s endurance athletes are setting the early pace for the coming winter programme. After taking the first female award at the Grand 10K at Aintree Kirsty Longley lined up for the DW Sports Fitness Southport 10K. This is a rugged mixture of mud, hard and soft sand plus a run in on the promenade, on this occasion into a headwind. Kirsty relishes such challenges and left her rivals struggling as she coasted home in 39.55 three minutes clear of the next female.
Mark Wynne is new to this sort of competition but having ran a highly encouraging third spot in 36.08 in the previous week`s Natterjack 10K he was clearly up for the tougher Fitness 10K. With the ultimate winner well away Mark concentrated on the runner-up spot. With a couple of miles to go he pulled clear of the rest and came home an easy 2nd in 37.19. As a Vet Mark is discovering a talent later in life and will now have plenty of younger rivals looking nervously over their shoulder this coming campaign.
