Mid-Lancs finale sees LPS success

The Mid-Lanc’s cross country season reached its climax at Leigh Sports Village on Saturday and it proved a successful day for Liverpool Pembroke & Sefton.
The U15B were hoping to consolidate their 3rd place position in the league, but they went one better and their second place finish on the day clinched them the silver medal overall. They were led home by Tom Dickinson (4) who himself claimed individual bronze, but there was an excellent run by Tom Corcoran (7) only 5 seconds behind, with Oliver Sutcliffe(21) and Matthew Russo(30) completing the team.

The senior women also had aspirations for a medal position, despite being without a number of regulars.Kirsty Longley finished second on the day, second overall and first lady in the Over 35 category. However, the real story centred around Hilary Honeyball who parted company with a shoe early in the race. After going back to retrieve it she then made her way through the field to finish strongly in 12th place. They were supported by juniors, Charlotte Mawdsley(41) & Anna Hulme(46) who enabled the team to finish 4th on the day but second overall.

The Bousfield twins were the sole runners in U11G race, with Chloe(35) getting the better of sister Lucy(40).The U11 boys packed well with James Roberts(29), James Read(30), Josh Price(38), Isaac Dickinson(43) & Evan Williams (43) to finish as 8th team. This year has been a valuable experience for them, with most still in this age group next year.

There was a great run from Mark Roberts(5) in U13B race, supported by Jake Dickinson(15) and Thomas Ralfs(33) to claim 5th team place. Other runners on the day were Nicholas Usher(34), Jack Hitchmough(43), Jake Ferreira(48), Daniel Rathbone(50, Ethan Edwards(51) & Patrick Hennigan(52).

The U13G team finished 8th thanks to Olivia Morgan(37), Emily Williamson (48) and Ruth Usher(56). Annabel Corlett(18), Jenny Williamson(21), Rachael Sutter(29) & Jenny Sutter(30)helped the U15G finish 5th.

The U17 men’s team had already clinched the league title but Adam Jones (5) and James Metcalf, having his best run of the season finished in 9th place.

Many of the club’s athletes will now be turning their attention to next weekend’s Inter Counties competition in Loughborough and the English schools
championships in Norwich the week after.
