LPS athletes were spread far and wide on a busy weekend of athletics. The county schools held their championships at Bebington Oval, Blackpool & Stretford, whilst juniors and seniors competed for northern titles at Sports City.
A number of athletes were keen to ensure they achieved the qualifying standard for the prestigious English Schools Championships to be held next month and they were not disappointed. Dan Slater knocked 7 seconds off his PB in winning the JB 100m title (4:17.1), whilst Rosie Johnson eased to victory in the 800m (2:08.5)to top the UK rankings. Joe Milton’s IB 400m time of 50.7, Morgan Greaves-Thomas 11.0 for IB 100m and Amelia Jennings-McLaughlin SG high jump leap of 1.74m all claimed gold. All five athletes gained automatic selection for their counties.
Other athletes who turned in gold medal winning performances were Dominic O’Hanlon SB Triple (11.02m) & Long Jump (4.92m),Matty Richardson JB 800m (2:12.2), Jade Murphy JG high jump (1.50m),Ed Latimer IB 400m (52.2)and Owen Southern U13B high jump (1.45m)
Silver medal triumphs came from Tom Climpson JB javelin (38.63m), Danni Wynn IG javelin (24.08m),Evelyn Smalley IG long jump 94.61m), Charlotte Mawdsley IG 1500m (5;15.0), Joe Houghton U13B 800m (2:36.4), Beth Milton U13G high jump (1.38m),Sadie McNulty U13G long jump (3.90m) and Ella Barton IG 100m (12.9)
There were bronze medals for Hannah Wills IG high jump (1.45m), Sadie McNulty U13 high jump (1.35m), Joe Milton IB 100m (11.4), Ella Barton IG 200m (26.8), Elliot Jones IB 100m (11.3)
Over at Sports City it was the turn of the juniors and seniors to perform. Amelia Jennings-McLaughlin claimed her second title in two days in winning the U20W high jump (1.71m)while Alistair Nelson won silver in U20M 5K, Nathan Hilton SM 400m (48.1)and Emma Givens SW 100m hurdles both claimed bronze.
On home soil, club captain Ian Roberts set a new course record(17.02) in winning the Ormskirk 5Km Park Run while over at the Liverpool Park Run Mark Wynne won that race in 17.16
