The National Cross Country Relays at Mansfield attract the best in the country and are a guide to the coming winter season. At Under 15 Rosie Johnson led for Liverpool Pembroke and Sefton and her class told as she crossed the line first in 7.23.55. She ended up 6th overall in the timings. It was going to be tougher for team-mates Charlotte Mawdsley (8.52.65) and Corinne Molyneux (8.18.05) who followed but they hung on to 33rd out of 96 teams. In the Under 17`s James Grundy (9.44.10 and 22nd)), Ryan Blackwell (9.49.25 and 14th) and James Loftus (10.23.30) combined for a highly respectable 15th out of 69 teams. Watch Race Video
The Junior Men fielded three teams. Toby Loveridge (9.02.95) was back after a long lay-off and will be delighted with 5th on the first stage. Strong running from Alistair Nelson (9.39.80) kept the club in the hunt in 8th spot with Jai Vernon-McGuigan (9.34.65) closing in 12th. Significantly for future championship prospects they were third Northern club. Few clubs can even manage one team in the Junior age group but LPS had two further squads. Warren Turner (9.54.10) was 52nd, Sean Kirkbride (10.00.15) made 40th in spite of an official’s late call while Mike Bride (10.38.40) brought them home 41st. A very satisfactory day for the club as Rob Parkinson (11.10.50) in 69th, Sean MacGabbam (11.15.20) in 58th and a really delightful surprise in the shape of David Reece (11.39.35) saw the club home 55th.
