A proposal has been made by some members to introduce a second club vest for use by Senior Runners. This has arisen following a number of instances, usually when participating in races outside the local area, when people have been unaware that we are based in Ormskirk.
The proposal is that the wording on the second vest will be “LPS ORMSKIRK” . The vest will also carry an alternative logo displaying the full club name (Liverpool Pembroke & Sefton Harriers & Athletic Club”), the red rose of Lancashire and the Liver bird. This will reflect the history of both Lancashire and Merseyside representation.
The committee will not provide a steer on this. They believe that club members should be asked to consider this change and, any implications and vote as to whether they support it or not. Please read the Q&A before voting.
Q&A
1. Is the club name changing? |
No. There is no appetite to change the name of the club. The proposal is purely to reflect where we are located and to help raise awareness of who we are. |
2. What is an official club event? |
Any event in a competition that the club is affiliated to as defined by the competition schedule agreed at the AGM. Currently these are: Mid Lancs leagues (Track, field & XC), Northern Athletics (Track, field & XC), Northern League, Road Relays, Liverpool & District Cross Country Union, County Championships (Track, field & XC) or National Competitions. |
3. What is an unofficial event? |
Events organised by 3rd parties such as Run through, Epic Events, Run Northwest, Park Runs, Halewood 5K, Trail events etc **except where these events are also being used for Regional or National competitions e.g Ribble Valley 10k is also Northern England Championships so the 2nd vest should not be worn |
4. Why the proposal for an alternative vest? |
The proposal has been made by some of the Senior Runner members and they have asked the committee to allow the club members to consider it. It has arisen following instances when people were unaware that LPS are based in Ormskirk or did not know where Pembroke & Sefton was. Those proposing the change recognise and want to preserve the history of Pembroke & Sefton, but also feel that it is important to recognise that the club has been located in Ormskirk for over 25 years. Their proposal is that the introduction of “LPS ORMSKIRK” on the vest will provide greater awareness. |

5. Why only Senior Runners? |
· The issue is typically confined to senior runners who compete in events outside of official ones. · There are too many junior members across multiple age groups for us to consider this as an option. This is because England Athletics rules state that the same vest must be worn for each team in an event. To make this happen we would have to ask parents to purchase new kit or the club would have to arrange a suitable supply of vests at each event. Neither is practical or fair and so the committee agreed that it should be restricted to the Senior Runners group who made this proposal. · Wider Track and Field teams have a significant presence and are recognised across the athletics community, not least of all due to amount of volunteers and officials we provide to events across the country and those events that we host. |
6. Is it possible to have 2 vests, one for official club events and one for other unofficial events if the athlete desires? |
Yes, this is possible and is one of the options. This would allow runners to wear any vest in unofficial club events, for example Mid Cheshire 5k, Ormskirk 10k, any parkrun, trail event or any run through / epic events etc. It would also mean that for official events that (See FAQ 2) that the existing vest must be worn. |
7. Could we have a situation where some of the team run in one vest and the rest of the team run in another? |
No, this would result in the athlete and team being disqualified for a single event. E.g. a road relay team or a 4×4 400m relay. The only instance that this would be permissible is if there was an “A” runner and a “B” runner in the same event. |
8. If approved, where can I obtain the alternative vest? |
If approved, we will make the new vest available through the club store at Malooka or via another online channel. Cost to be determined. |
9. What happens if a senior runner does not have the new vest or objects to wearing it? |
The vest is a 2nd vest. In these circumstances the team must wear the existing primary vest. |
10. Can I buy one even if I’m not a senior runner? |
No, it will not be made available to anyone other than Senior Runners at this time. |
11. What does it look like? |

Important – You are being asked to consider and vote on the 4 options below.
- I support the introduction of a second vest for use when I represent LPS. I understand that this will require me to purchase a new vest and that the whole team must wear the same vest in order for me and the team to compete. (See FAQ 9)
- I support the introduction of a second vest but only for use outside of official club events. This means that it can not be worn at official club events such as Mid Lancs, Northern League, Northern Counties, National or County Championship events or any event defined by the competition schedule agreed at the AGM.
- I do not support a second vest, the club name is Liverpool Pembroke & Sefton Harriers and this is what the vest should state.
- I abstain from the vote.
Notes
- Should option 1 be the preferred option, this will need to be ratified via an EGM.
- There will be one vote per member. Parents will be given one vote irrespective of the number of junior members they have in the club.
- In order for the vote to be valid, 90 individual votes must be received. 66.67% of those must have expressed a preference.
- The vote will remain open until 11:59 PM Friday 16 January.
- Individual persons votes will NOT be publicised. However to protect the integrity of the vote you may be contacted by an external independent verifier to confirm that you have voted & choice undertaken.
