Success at Medal Meeting

The final Mid-Lancs track & field event took the form of a medal meeting held at Stanley Park in Blackpool. Numbers were depleted in most events due to the number of athletes still away on holiday.
Juniors, Matt Ingram & Kai Finch continued the dominance of their events. Matt winning both long (6.52m) & triple jump (13.40m) with Kai taking the high jump title (1.95m). The U17 men on the day were sprinters and all 3 managed a pb in the 100m. Ciaran Scroggie was delighted to knock .5 sec off his time in recording 11.70 sec in finishing 5th, while Harry Steele ran 12.1 (8th) and Joe Daniels 12.5
The U15 Boys were more successful and claimed 3 gold medals with Se Loughlin winning the 800m (2:23.6), Michael Henderson the 3K (10:46.3) & Sandy Clarkson the high jump (!.70m). In addition, Jacob Garrity will be delighted to claim a pb in the high jump (1.60m). The U13 boys matched their medal total of three, thanks to Nathan Naylor who was second in the 800m (2:36.6), Alex Steele 3rd in the high jump (1.35m) and Cameron Ayres 2nd in the 1500m (5:12.2)
The U17 women had varied success. Imogen Ayres claimed silver in the high jump with a leap of 1.45m, as did Jessica Groves in the discus (26.34m) to extend her pb by 3 metres. Jessica also finished 3rd in the hammer (36.53m) & 5th in the shot putt (8.97m). Emma Ward will be delighted with a new pb in the 100m (14.4) to finish 9th ahead of Lucy Le Marinel (14.6). The under 15 girls claimed two medals thanks to Hope Kennedy in the javelin (28.74m) and Roisin O’Connor in the shot (7.27m). Roisin also improved her pb in the javelin by 3 metres (22.31m) in finishing 6th. On the track, Lily Crompton knocked 0.5 sec off her 100m time (14.8)
The one medal winner in the U13 age group was newcomer, Millie O’Hanlon, who finished 2nd in the high jump (1.35m). Katelyn Swift ran the 100m in a new pb time (14.9), threw the discus 18.89m to claim bronze & did 3.71m in the long jump. Mum, Nicola, also claimed bronze, in the hammer (13.77m), along with efforts in the shot of 5.50m and discus of 14.37m.

Elsewhere, the British Masters Track & Field Championships were held at Alexander stadium in Birmingham, where athlete Dave Brown was competing in the V50 category. Dave claimed bronze in the javelin (38.45m), was 4th in the shot (9.97m), 5th in the discus (35.24m) and 6th in the discus (35.24m). Owen Southern was the club’s sole entry in the England Athletics Championships held in Bedford where he finished in 8th place in the high jump (1.86m) in a quality field.
