Tiffany’s fast 5k at Halewodd

LPS athletes turned out in numbers for the monthly 5k race at Halewood on the 3rd November. Halewood has a history of good times so it was a perfect opportunity for young Tiffany Penfold to see how her winter training was progressing as she lined up with nine other club members in perfect conditions.

Tiff was never far off the leading group in the early stages and in the good company of two very experienced runners in the shape of Peter Green (Knowsley) and Glen Groves (Liverpool)  Tiffany ran a sensible race and was rewarded with a victory and a pb of 17.02 which puts her third in the UK ranking for an under 20 this year. Her coach Mark Bleasdale said “Tiff was looking to dip 17 minutes but we are happy with this race today”

Club captain Mark Wynne continued his recent good form with a time of  15.49 which was good enough to secure second place and first V40, he was followed home by Luke Edwards (like Tiffany his first run at Halewood) who came third in 16.14. Next was Harry Doran in 8th place in 16.46. Tiffany was 11th and first female in 17.02. Paul Milburn was 18th in 17.56 followed by Helen Saghal, 25th and second female in 18.48. Next in 27th and running a new pb of 19.00 was Lee Anderton, Lee beat his previous best by a massive 45 seconds.

A frequent runner at Halewood is Lisa Gawthorne who ran 19.23 for 30th place and first FV35.  Another athlete who has benefited from Mark Bleasdale’s sessions is Andrew Conway who run his fastest 5k in a number of years finishing 36th in 20.15 and first V50, a  sub 20 minute run must be a realistic goal for Andrew in the near future. Robbie Wood was 47th place running 20.52 for second V60 and another old Sefton Harrier John Dobie was 64th in 25.20 which put him second V70. It was nice to see our old team mate Clare Constable out and she rand a very respectable 20.48 to claim first Fv45.

The next Halewood 5k will be on  1st December 10.30 start.

Congratulations also go to Chris Maher who made the trip over to Leeds for the Abbey Dash 10k on the 4th November. This race always attracts a top quality field and Chris was rewarded for his journey with a new pb of 33.21 taking over a minute off his previous best.

It was nice to hear that Kirsty McKenzie is back competing after her bad injury last year when she broke her knee while out running. Kirsty ran the Tatton half marathon in 1.55. Well done Kirsty good to have you back running.
