| Barbara Wood appointed England Team Manager Barbara Wood was appointed England Juniors Ladies Team Manager at the ECCA meeting at Derby on Saturday 5th September. Barbara who has been the North of England Ladies team Manager for the past five years will be pleased to take on this new responsibility and we wish her well in her new role. Barbara joined Pembroke as a young girl and has remained a member over many years, along with her Mum Maureen they have been invaluable to the club for a long time. This is an honor for the club and just rewards for all her good work in promoting women’s cross country running in the North of England. 5th September 2003 |
3rd place at Sefton Park
 Alan Woods, Adam Clancy, Sammy Rashid, Joey Parkinson The North West Road relays returned to the popular Sefton Park venue this year. The senior men’s event was held over a 4x6k course. Sammy Rashid was on leg one and came home in 6th place and very much in contention with the leaders. Alan Woods in much form than this time last year had an excellent run on leg two and brought us home in second place behind Salford and ahead of Merseyside rivals Liverpool H. Joey Parkinson was next off and ran a solid leg but was unfortunate to have an inform Peter Green from Liverpool H on the same leg. Joey held him off for almost 4k before Peter Caught and passed Joey. Adam Clancy was on leg four and ran another solid leg to bring us home 3rd overall and second in the Merseyside championship. The club also had Robbie Wood on leg one for the ‘B’ team finishing quite well down. Jeff Mason was next for the ‘B’ and made up a lot of ground. Jeff has been another good club man for many years and once again when asked put the club ahead of his own interests. Also making a welcome return to club competition was Jimmy Boardman who ran leg three for the ‘B’ team. Jimmy, a former L&D champion will be a welcome asset to us this coming season. |
| Bronze medal for Maria Barrett at World Champs In another outstanding performance by one of our young athletes Maria Barrett won the bronze medal at the world Biathlon championships in Monte Carlo on Sunday (21 September)  Maria Barrett with club President Les Williams Maria representing Great Britain in this championship which attracted athletes from all over the globe. The race was held in high and difficult temperatures, Maria got off to a reasonable start over the first road run of 1500 metres and entered the second phase for the 200 metres sea swim in 5th position behind the Lithuanian, Egyptian , Mexican and British athletes. As Maria completed the swim she had closed in on the bronze medal position and was running down the two front runners, the Lithuanian and the Egyptian although Maria closed the gap, the final road run of 1500 metres went over so quickly that eventually she had to settle for the Bronze medal. |
