A Tale of Three Cities

Another busy few weeks for LPS as we had athletes pounding the tarmac in multiple road races.

Manchester

Luke Edwards made his half marathon debut with a tremendous sub 70 finish in 69:49. This was not only a fabulous performance but also saw him finish 12th overall out of 8236 athletes, not bad for a 400m runner.

In the same race, Kirsty Longley finished 3rd female overall and 1st in the V45 F category as she became the 4th fastest female of all time in this age group with a personal best time of 75:05.

Chris Parr also ran brilliantly to record 1:37.33 making it a very strong day for LPS in Manchester.

Lisbon

In sunnier climes than Manchester, our very own Mancunian, Darren Kain ran the Lisbon half marathon with a decent 1:49.15 time. This was Darren’s 50th half marathon and comes only a year after a serious hip operation.

Birmingham

England’s second city is our third featured city this week as it hosted the National Road Relays at Sutton Park.

A star studded event saw LPS finish a credible 52nd place as our team of 6 all completed the course in strong times. Ross Harrison, running 1st leg in 17:53 put the team in a good position as he came in 27th place.  Joe Niven continued the promising start as completed his leg in 18:29 leaving the team in 36th overall.  Se Loughlin took over in leg 3 and recovered 4 places finishing in 18:40 before handing over to Tony O’Brien, who ran confidently in 19:30.  Tom Fair in 5th leg continued his successful season with a time of 19:44.

Our final leg was run by veteran, Bernie Murphy who was running the race thirty eight years after he first competed in it. Bernie completed the course in 21:54 meaning LPS were able to hold off a number of “rivals” to finish in 52nd overall.
