While their cross country colleagues are getting into their stride Liverpool Pembroke Sefton track and field athletes are contemplating the indoor season, traditionally beginning at Manchester’s Sport City. Three of the club`s high jumpers shone with Under 17 Amelia McLaughlin clearing an impressive 1.70m and U20 Kate Doran also on a highly satisfactory 1.60m. The real star though was probably talented 13 year old Hannah Wills, a newcomer to the sport, who soared over 1.40m, a height that brought a big smile to the face of coach, Dave McComb. Also at Manchester were Luke Edwards and Danny Higham who tackled the 600m and recorded 1.19.6 and 1.19.9 respectively. Interestingly these plus Harry Doran now occupy 2-4th in the National rankings in this rarely run event. Adam Thompson also came away with a personal best 300m time of 35.7 and Under 15 Joe Milton recorded a smart 60m in 7.7 and 300m in 38.6.
The team results for the Mid-Lancs League run in conjunction with the previous week`s McCain’s Cross Country Challenge are now calculated and LPS are looking good in a number of events. The U13 girls squad of Morag Molyneux(4), Megan Barnsley(33), Alex Barnsley(38), Kia Cheetham(42) plus Ellen Murgatroyd(56) managed fourth team but an impressive earlier result sees them in second team place overall. Rosie Johnson was untroubled in taking first slot at Under 15 and with substantial back-up from Anna Hulme(15), Corinne Molyneux(20) and Charlotte Mawdsley(23) second place was ensured but still table-topping in this age group. The depth of strength here was emphasised with Laura Powell(28), Rosie Walsh(29), Jessie Gonzalez-Green(31) and Kate Croft(42). The Senior ladies were led home exuberantly by Kirsty Longley(4) followed by Lisa Gawthorne(19) and Bua Kalasiram(20) plus Leia Bowes(31) and Scarlett Collins(45) to take second team on the day but still heading up their division.
The U13 boys packed well with Mathew Richardson(5), Joe Martin(12), Josh Forrest(17), Michael Croft(44) and Joe Marshall(45) to record second team on the day. The U15 boys also packed confidently with Ben Singleton(12), Daniel Wright(21), Liam Bibby(23) and Chris Webber(31) closing in third team again and with Jack Crook(35), Joe Chadderton(40) and Max Cotterill(46) as useful back up. Although U17s James Loftus(12) and Jonathan Bride(32) were team-less on this occasion there is still plenty to play for and end-of-season medals here are also a distinct possibility. Luke Dee(21)was alone at U11. Overall a very strong showing for the club`s junior members.
