Let’s ‘And it to Elle as Mark hits the wall in Malta

Another positive week for team LPS with our athletes competing across the world.

Lisa Gawthorne kept us all in suspense as she broke her PB … again for 10k.  Less than a week after running for England in the masters event, she popped over to USA and took part in the 45th Manhattan Beach Old Hometown 10K where she finished 1st in her age group (4th female overall) in her PB of 38:37.

Meanwhile, at the equally glamorous Halewood,   Elle Anderson took 1st place overall at the monthly 5k in a time of 17:05 with Adam Fields in 8th at 18:14.

Kirsty Longley continued her domination of Widnes Park Run, also finishing in 17:05, a minute and a half ahead of the nearest runner.

Ste Bolton rounded off a successful three months with a huge PB at the Aintree 10k.  Ste finished in 9th place overall with a time of 41:09.  In the same race Tom Mattack also produced his best ever performance, finishing 2nd in his age group and 13th overall with a strong 42:31.

On Sunday we had a number of athletes taking part in the very windy Mawdesley 10k.  The tough conditions didn’t stop the camera smiles as Tom Harkin finished 5th overall in 39:15.  Chris Pedder, took the V60 1st place (20th overall) in 45 Minutes, whilst Neil Roberts finished in an impressive 48:36 in the V50 category.  Our lone female competitor, Sharon Roberts – also in the V50 category – was 7th in her age category and the 19th female overall in 58:22.

Sunday also saw 4 of our athletes take part in the London Marathon.  Paul Milburn had a super run with a sub 3 hour finish in 2:58.31.  Daniel Rees was shortly behind in 3:13.36.

Our 2 female competitors both had stong runs with Rachel Yates and Sarah Grant both completing the 26.2 mile course.  Sarah finishing in 3:32.07 and Rachel in 3:51.15.

And whilst we had people slogging the streets of London, our very own Judith Chalmers wannabe, Mark Hudson, was sunning himself during the Great Wall of Malta 19k trail race.  Despite the overload of factor 50, Mark was 1st finisher his age group (v60), which is a continuum of his strong performances in 2022.

And so another week finishes as we lead up to the National Road Relays in Birmingham on Saturday and the cross country season starting on 15th Oct at Witton Park.

On a final note, there’s a free heart test at Edge Hill University for anyone aged 14-35 on Oct 15-16th,  please see the photo and passcode to register.
