Liverpool Pembroke & Sefton travelled to Burnley to contest their second fixture in the northern league and came away with a resounding victory, to consolidate their top position in the league. Their points tally of 438 was 64 more than East Cheshire AC & contained 25 first place victories. LPS dominated the sprints & throws.
Danny Higham won both the 100m (11.3) & 400m (48.9) events, with Billy Matthews victorious in the ‘B’ events (11.8 & 51.9), while Harry Doran won the 200m (23.2). Lauren Lewis (12.70) & Emma Givens (13.4) made it a sprint double in the women’s 100 metres, while Lucy Townson (60.40) & Clare Constable (61.11) matched them in the 400m event. Both athletes claimed a double victory with Lucy (71.9) winning the 400m hurdles event and Clare the 800m (2:21.52).
Youngsters Lauren Lewis (5.07m) & Alice Prescott (4..59m) secured maximum points in the long jump, as did Emma Givens (16.9) & Jorden Pilkington (19.4) in the 100m hurdles and did Kai Finch (1.85m) & Owen Southern (1.70m) in the high jump. Jonathon Bride was the sole middle distance success in the men’s events winning the 800m ( 1:59.7)
In the throws, Gary Ireland secured maximum points in his 4 events, winning the Hammer (34.76m), Discus (30.91m), Shot (11.08m) & ‘B’ Javelin (38.59m). There was able support from Mark Line (27.04m) in the Hammer, Callum Hynd (29.64m) in the Discus & Dave Brown (9.95m) in the shot, as they all won the ‘B’ events.
Not to be outdone, the women too had their share of victories in the throwing events. Under 20, Jenny Pyatt, won both Discus (41.53m) & Shot (9.85m), while Rachel Hutchinson’ s Shot Putt of 8.23m & Lucy Wroblewski’s discus throw of 20.08m secured maximum points in the ‘B’ events.
Victory in the next match at Edge Hill should guarantee promotion back to division 2
