It is with great sadness we hear of the passing of Mrs Maureen Wood on 11th March 2016 after a lengthy battle with dementia.
Maureen, and all three of her her daughters Jackie, Claire and Barbara, were heavily involved with the Pembroke side of the club for many years.
She started out as a runner in the days when the ladies section was a little more spartan than it is today. No problem to Maureen, she’d just run with
the men instead; while playing netball for a team based at Liverpool Harriers ! Despite what might appear as divided loyalties it was with
Liverpool Pembroke she became an accomplished hurdler and later a qualified official for the club. In her time she was also committed to
the Merseyside AAA and even filled the role of treasurer.
No shrinking violet she wasn’t slow to point out to Liverpool Football Club who was around first when our team bus pulled alongside theirs
just after they’d won the “double”. We are fast losing our characters from the sport, and she was certainly one. We should cherish their
memories. She will be deeply missed by many of us.
Funeral
Maureen’s funeral will be held at Thorntom crematorium on 24th March at 12 noon. A collection will be made for care home that Maureen spent her last 4 years in.

Fond and happy memories of Maureen over many years. Great support of the club and athletics at many levels. Along with Duncan and Gordon someone you would always see at club fixtures.
My thoughts are with her family at this difficult time.
Fond memories of Maureen acting as a div. sec for the Northern League. We had a common interest in that I was born and bred in Carlisle and West Cumbria and her daughter was with Border. So sad.
Maureen was one of a group of ultra-reliable officials that could be immediately pencilled in for matches. It was an era of colourful and unforgettable characters who loved not only the sport but the comradeship and banter. Maureen was always at the centre of the repartee and laughter. She will be remembered with affection. Condolences go out to her family.
