Jai Vernon-McGuigan took a major step forward when he was selected to run for the North of England in the Lotto Cross Country Cup in Hulshout, Belgium. It was an icy four lap course with numerous twists and turns that did not suit Jai`s loping action but he stayed on his feet to record a very respectable 8th spot less than 50 seconds behind the actual winner. He fully justified his selection and will be eager for more international experience of this kind.
The Southport Mad Dog 10K Road Race attracted over 1100 runners and the huge surprise for LPS was the second placing of Harry Doran in 33.34. Harry is a classy sprinter with a 47.51 400m posting to his credit and he was here venturing into unknown territory. This was a huge tribute to his talent and general fitness but it is unlikely to attract him away from the business of track and field where he has had international experience.
Kirsty Longley was 27th in the same race and first Woman home in 37.42. Kirsty regularly turns in classy performances and few can believe she is still doing this off a modest mileage training regime. Her next big event will be for Merseyside in the Inter-counties Cross Country Championships in Birmingham.
