Quality shows at Salt Ayre

The Salt Ayre track in Lancaster was the venue for match 4 in the Mid-Lancs track & field league on Saturday. Although LPS numbers were down compared to previous matches, the quality on show was undeniable with no fewer than 18 individual winners. High Jumpers again dominated with Billy Williams(SM), Debbie Dasse(SW), Kai Finch (U17M) & Owen Southern (U15B) winning their respective age groups. However, it was the emergence of newcomers, Niamh Doyle(U13G) & Sandy Clarkson (U13B)who both cleared 1.50m to put them in the top 10 rankings in the UK.

The U15G dominated the long jump event with Lauren Lewis (4.91m), Erin Birchall (4.70m)and Alice Prescott (4.56m)making it a 1/2/3. Alice again improved her PB in winning the 200m in 27.3. Matt Ingram (U17M)made it a jumps double winning both long(5.74m) & triple jump(12.04m).

Veteran, Dave Brown, went one better winning the shot, discus and hammer in the senior men category. On the track the blustery conditions made it difficult to achieve fast times but Joe Houghton (U15B)800m(2:17.6), Mark Roberts U13B 800m (2:27.5)and Tom Dickinson U15B 1500m (4:53.2)all won their races comfortably. Although not winning their events, Martha Simms U13G 100m (13.7)and Mia Lane U13G Shot (8.16m)both finished second and showed their continual development.

Overall both male & female teams finished 3rd on the day.

PLEASE NOTE: The next Mid-lancs fixture will take place on Saturday 23rd July (NOT 30th July)at Edge Hill & the medal meeting on August 27th will now take place at Leigh Sports Village & NOT Wigan
