A quiet weekend for LPS 28 June
Something of a break in a frenetic programme for LPS. Three members
were at Bedford for the U20 UKA Champs all contesting the 400m.
Wayne Ashall(50.4), Harry Doran(49.60) and Danny Higham(50.12) had
useful heat times but only Harry and Danny went forward to the
semi-finals. Here they both succumbed with Harry(49.32) finishing
seventh and Danny(49.66) sixth.
At Stretford for the BMC meeting Kirsty Longley continued to improve
posting a 1500m personal best by one second to 4.40.66. Adam Clansey
ran a 1.58.27 800m.

Michael Rimmer runs 1:47:01 in his season
opener 11 June
After missing a chunk of winter training due to a foot injury
Michael Rimmer then discovered he had breathing problem due to a big
drop in lung capacity. After help from the UKA medical team he has
been prescribed inhalers that have relieved the problem. He was
obviously not at his best in an early BMC Milers Club 1500m at
Stretford where he clocked for him a modest 3.47.95. Now on the way
back to full recovery he was expected to turn out at the Super 8
competition in Cardiff but due to a logo dispute all Nike sponsored
athletes were withdrawn. Read More

A miserable day at Litherland 6 June
It was a somewhat miserable day at Litherland for the Northern
Senior Track and Field Match Division 2W). The poor weather
reflected the Liverpool Pembroke Sefton overall performance as the
club slumped to fifth place mainly due to a poor turn out. However,
there were some bright moments principally that of international,
Phil Taylor, taking both the 100m(11.6) and 200m(22.4) as part of
his season's preparation. Read More

String of PB's at Stretford 28 May
LPS athletes collected a string of personal bests at one of the
regular graded Trafford Grand Prix evenings. David Forrester ran a
highly impressive 1500m in 4.00.92 with Toby Loveridge(4.05.75) and
Harry Boyd(4.09.13) also among the action. Tom Hanlon chopped a
massive two seconds off his 800m time with 1.56.67 with an equally
delighted Sean Dignam coasting to 1.58.89. Others striving included
metric milers Chris Hesketh(4.12.69), Mike Bride(4.15.83) and Jai
Vernon McGuigan(4.28.27) and two-lappers Adam Clansey(2.00.19) and

Kicks for Victory 4 May
It was a weekend when Liverpool Pembroke Sefton's runners, jumpers
and throwers all excelled. Top slot must go to Kirsty Longley who is
developing a fearsome reputation for a finishing kick. She took the
Women's prize in the Waterloo 15K Road Race(58.13) with a
devastating sprint to the line leaving ostensibly quicker opponents
gasping. Some 48 hours previous she had done something similar in
the Northern Senior League (Div 2) match at Warrington. Opting for
the 1500m she appeared well adrift of the leader but produced an
astonishing sustained charge over the last lap to surge to the front
and record 4.43.0, chopping a massive ten seconds off her personal
best. She is now arguably queen of the local distance running scene.

Charlotte joins international club 26 April
The Liverpool Pembroke Sefton club journeyed to Warrington for the
first round of the National Junior League (Mersey Division). The
squad was far from full strength finishing sixth of eight teams, a
position they can certainly improve on as the season unfolds.
Pride of place must go to Charlotte Christian who has had an amazing
week. Here she threw 38.55m to not only win the women's hammer but
collect the Female of the Match Award. This is the second time in 7
days that she has set a personal best and new club record.

pickings for the Great Britain and Northern Ireland squad but
Liverpool Pembroke and Sefton 400m star, Phil Taylor, rose to the

collected a gold medal and the selectors obviously appreciated his

A disappointing time at Nottingham 7 March
Seven club members were representing their respective counties at
the Inter-counties Cross Country Championships at Nottingham.
Possibly the two most pleased were Alistair Nelson(51st in the U15s)
and second for a Lancashire team that finished 14th and Rhea Ellis
at U20 who was 32nd and first of the Merseyside contingent in 17th
team spot. Harry Boyd was 93rd and second home for Merseyside at U20
but the team was a lowly 24th. Kirsty Longley was way off her best
in the Senior Women(156 and 4th counter for the 24th placed
Merseyside). The club's Merseyside U17 duo of Toby Loveridge(67) and
David Forrester(98) led their county to 22nd with Jai Vernon-McGuigan
133. It was one of those days when nobody really hit top form. These
things happen!

schedule at the Edge Hill track has obviously paid off and there
is even more to come. Second claim member Peter Hoyle was also
in good form finishing 7th and getting on the prize list. Keith

Taylor just misses out 31 January
The Liverpool Pembroke Sefton senior sprint star, Phil
Taylor, switched back to his favourite event, the 400m,
for the Birmingham Games at the National Indoor Arena.
After a good heat time of 48.89 Phil had swift
semi-final qualifier of 47.79 which raised expectation
for the final but a poor second lane draw was not
helpful and although turning on the usual power finish
Phil had to settle for fourth in 47.84. He next goes to
the Irish Championships where he runs the 200m and then
heads for the crucial European Trials at Sheffield in
the middle of the month

Boardman back 29 November
The UK Cross Country Challenge
including the European Trials came once again to Liverpool's
Sefton Park. Incorporating the local leagues it is an
opportunity for the ordinary runner to race against the best in
the country. From a Liverpool Pembroke Sefton senior point of
view the big plus was the return of Jimmy Boardman, missing for
a few years but running as fluently as ever. He turned a few
heads as he slipped through the large field and although still
well down overall in 101st place he was fourth in the domestic
battle with only three Liverpool Harriers in front. A few more
races under his belt and he will once again be looking to top
the Merseyside scene. Read More
