Kirsty collects at Cardiff while Amelia enjoys silver at
Sheffield 15 January Running for the North of England in
the McCain Cross Challenge series in Cardiff Kirsty Longley was 21st
in a distinguished field. She was fourth counter for the region but
was even more delighted to mount the podium as the first Over 35
contestant to finish. Kirsty started a running career late but is
proving a very gritty and determined competitor.

LPS U17`s rounding into form 14 Jaunuary After
an uplifting county championships it was back to slightly more
mundane matters as Liverpool Pembroke Sefton athletes travelled to
Hyndburn for another match in the Mid-Lancs League. Pivotal to this
encounter for the club was the performance of the U17 Men who were
almost at full strength. In perfect weather conditions a slightly
off-form Warren Turner still turned in a solid fourth place but
there was a real surprise packet in the shape of James Grundy who
charged through to fifth. With Ryan Blackwell seventh the team race
was sewn up but the additional presence of James Loftus(10) and
David Reece(15) raises the prospect of possible medals in the
immediate Northern Championships at Pontefract.

Triple
star performance at county championships 7 January The
Merseyside Cross Country Championships at St Helens Sherdley Park
delivered three individual titles and a team trophy to the Liverpool
Pembroke Sefton club. Early in the proceedings U15 Rosie Johnson
demonstrated a maturity beyond her years, not only in holding off a
determined challenge from a strong Wirral rival but turning in a
powerful closing charge that delighted her supporters. Thereafter
the expression, `Let`s do a Rosie Johnson' spread through the
camp. Some twenty years her senior Kirsty Longley took on the pride
of Liverpool Harriers in the shape of Jenny Clague and Maria
Barrett. Courtney Bishop finished a very creditable second in the
Oxfordshire County Women`s race and should be available for the
National at Parliament Hill. At the Warwickshire Championships Clark
Roberts was 52nd with Sammy Rashid(54) hot on his heels. Read More |
Northern Call up for Kirsty 3 January After her victory in the pre Christmas Mid
Lancs at Chorley, Kirsty Longley has been selected to run for the
North at Cardiff on 15 Januray. Well done Kirsty a fine reward for
all that hard work |
Here come the girls! 10 December After
chasing the leaders in the Mid-Lancs Cross Country League for so
many years Kirsty Longley could be forgiven for actually giving up
on winning this event but motherhood has given her an additional
drive and dimension and she was irresistible at Chorley`s Astley
Park. On an entertaining and diverse course she was never really
troubled, could relax and enjoy the spectacle of seeing some
talented runners struggling in her wake.

Dave named Coach of the Year 14 November
High
Jump coach Dave McComb has had an astonishing couple of years as he
has seen many of his group make the upper reaches of the national
rankings most notably Amelia McLoughlin, English Schools champion.
Now in the West Lancashire Sports Award evening sponsored by the
Advertiser, he has been named `Coach of the Year' for 2011. He
follows John Bradshaw who was similarly honoured last year. The club
has had a remarkable run of success in these awards and is
recognised as an outstanding club in the area. To top it all Amelia
McLoughlin and Mike Rimmer were named as runners-up in their
respective categories. |
Stunning
run from Toby Loveridge at Mansfield 4 November The
English Cross Country Relays at Mansfield are always viewed as an
important indicator of both individual and team prospects for the
impending season. The Liverpool Pembroke Sefton star, Toby
Loveridge, seized the occasion to demonstrate his talent. Running
first stage of the Junior race he was fourth (8.53.60) to hand over
but barely three seconds down on the leader and subsequently seventh
placed fastest overall. He is clearly flourishing at the superb
facilities of St Mary`s University College, Twickenham.

Cross country begins and the women shine 29 October
The
cross country season commenced in fine style with the young athletes
and women travelling to Burnley for the Mid-Lancs League and the
senior men taking the shorter trip to Beacon Park for the Liverpool
and District equivalent. At Townley Park arguably the best
individual performance came from Rosie Johnson in the Under 15 Girls
race. In finishing second she demonstrated a tenacity that will
almost certainly carry her through to county honours later in the
season. With Katie Walker(15) and Claire Hindley(35) running well
Liverpool Pembroke Sefton will, nevertheless, have to find a fourth
counter if they are to challenge for team medals.
