Imogen wins bronze at Northern Champs

A number of LPS athletes made the journey across the Pennines on sunday to compete in the U15 Northern Indoors Championships. Pride of place went to Imogen Ayres who equalled her championship best performance(1.45m) to win the bronze medal in the high jump. In addition a number of athletes from Phil Whitfield’s coaching group also competed in the 60 metres and long jump. Although no-one came away with a medal, Grace Mitchell, Martha Simms, Tayla Reilly, Izzy Ascroft & Scarlet Whitfield can be pleased with their performances and knowing they will have gained valuable experience from their first indoor competition.

Dan shines at county schools cross country championships
The Merseyside Schools Cross Country Championships took place at Arrowe Park where Dan Slater was the star performer winning the senior boys title; Joe Gordon was 10th in the same race. Emily Williamson was a creditable 8th in the year 7G race while sister Jenny (10), Gabby Morris(16) & Faye Hannaway (17) helped Sefton to the bronze medal.

The Lancashire schools championships where held at Witton Park, Blackburn and LPS athletes had divided loyalties, competing for either West Lanc’s, Chorley or South Ribble schools. The best individual performance came from Dan Jones who was 2nd in a close finish in the senior Boys race. Glenn Sherwin was 11th in the same race but helped South Ribble take the team title. At Inter level, the quartet of Adam Jones(5), Ross Harrison(8), Tom Hankin(18) & Henry Latimer(22) helped West Lanc’s schools to the team title. Tom Dickinson running for Chorley was 11th in the same race.

In the girl’s inter age group, Amelia Hitchmough(24) helped Chorley to team bronze: Fran Price running for W.Lanc’s finished 29th. There were bronze medals too for the girl’s quartet of Fiona Byrne(17), Kate Mullen(26), Olivia Morgan (30) & Kate Sutcliffe (35) running for W.Lanc’s schools in the year 7 race. In the boys equivalent, Nicholas Usher finished 21st & Jack Bousfield 39th

Senior women triumph at Mad Dog 10k
It was almost a 1,2,3 for the senior women in the annual Mad Dog 10k race held in Southport. Kirsty Longley was the first lady home (37.20) and 22nd overall but was closely followed by Helen Sahgal (37.35). Meanwhile, Hilary Honeyball was running her fastest ever 10K (39.90) to finish 4th lady. Veteran Matt Thompson completed the course in 38th place (39.14)
