Great club result at home match

The conditions were exceptionally warm at Edge Hill University as Liverpool Pembroke Sefton hosted the second of the Division 2 Northern League matches. The local team of helpers organised by Club Secretary, Wally Bridson, put on a brilliantly organised show, impressing the visitors.
After a poor showing in the first match, fifth out of the six teams, something special was required to restore the club`s fortunes and this was forthcoming in an afternoon of supreme effort and determination across the board. The leading club, Liverpool Harriers, was chased to the wire for a clear second position and if this kind of effort is sustained there will be no worries about survival next season.
Kai Finch, once again in majestic form in the High Jump, comfortably leapt 1.95m and was marginally unlucky at 2.01m. Partnered by Billy Williams(1.85m) the pair dominated the action. As noted previously Matt Ingram is an emerging force, second in both the Long(6.30m) and Triple Jump(12.55m) and is moving up the rankings. Danny Higham(22.8) took the 200m effortlessly. Among the middle distance runners Jack Crook collected second(2.00.0) with Matt Richardson taking the B event(2.02.6). A vets trio of Garry Ireland, Mark Line and Dave Brown gathered points prolifically in the Throws but the third spot in the Javelin by young Ben Harding(43.29m) was of particular note. As usual the 4 x 100m Relay team (Luke Edwards, Elliot Jones, Danny Higham and Andrew Williams) bested the rest with 44.6 and the 4 x400m squad (Luke Edwards, Andrew Williams, Danny Higham and Jonathan Bride) were even more dominant in 3.26.0.
For the Women Jenny Pyatt was again outstanding in the Discus with 43.70m, beating her own club record. She is gaining national recognition. Like their male counterparts the women throwers comprising Jenny, Rachel Hutchinson, Alex Bunclark and Laura Fairclough were all prominent point scorers. The fiercely competitive Kirsty Longley second in both the 1500m(5.00.2) and 3000m (10.45.6) set the standard for some sterling performances elsewhere. This was this was most pronounced in the relays where in the 4 x 100m, Emma Givens, Ella Barton, Evelyn Smalley and Jessica Fitzgerald grabbed second(50.90) plus Emma Givens, Tawanda Longu, Ella Barton and the irrepressible Kirsty anchoring to a fine 4 x 400m win in 4.28.8.
Michael Rimmer`s preparations for the Olympic trials continued as he contested the 600m in the Birmingham Diamond League meeting. In a race won by the Olympic 800m champion, David Rudisha, Michael clocked the very good time of 1.15.87 in fifth spot.
