‘Old but not obsolete!’, It was a day for the super-vets in the third L&D cross country fixture at the often avoided Beacon Park course!
The cold and sunny conditions rapidly deteriorated into sleet and a heavy snow flurry as the race progressed. The team finished third behind Sutton St Helens and Liverpool Harriers. Kevin Usher (5th) used all his experience to out run youngster Dan Jones (6th) who ran well for his first outing over the mud this season. Bernie Murphy (17th), Chris Pedder (27th),John Halson (30th) and Mike Gall (32nd) all battled through the conditions to pack well on the toughcourse to complete the team counters.
Further down the field, Andrew Conway(50th) ran well to out run Mark Bleasdale (52nd) whilst the super fit over 70 year old John Dobie battled to a 68th place to complete the turnout. Of the nine LPS runners who ran, seven were over 50! With other athletes missing or injured it was a day when we could have won the team event. Medals in the up coming L&D Championship are a possibility with a strong turnout from young
and old!
